ASICS continues to explore unique ways to incorporate Japanese craftsmanship and sustainable practice through their collaborations, this time working with Fujitaka co. ltd. The project looks to incorporate and celebrate excess materials from different industries as the base for new footwear.

Fujitaka CO LTD is a textile manufacturer best known for their high quality towels which are the top-selling in Japan. For the EX89 textiles are used as an accent amongst the smooth leather uppers. Recognisable loop-back terry cloth seen on Fujitaka's towels is used for the lining and tongue, whilst textiles of different types feature on the quarter panel and ASICS stripe. Strategic points are accented with darning marks finished in rainbow thread, giving the shoes a well-worn and repaired look.
